FRANCIS A. MOOSTRICH, Registered and Qualified as a Physician and
urgeon in the United Kingdom and in the City of Victoris, in the Colony of
Hong Kong, do hereby solemnly declare that this is a true and correct state-
hent regarding the examination, embarkation and health of Passengers per s.s.
"Landratschieff" from Hong Kong to Salina Cruz.
EXAMINATION IN HONG KONG:-
On April 29th, 1908, Eight hundred
Chinese Deck passengers, Eighteen Second and Seven First Class presented
themselves for examination in the Offices of the China Commercial S. S. Co.
in Hong Kong.
The examination was made by the Port Doctor (Dr. Grone), assisted by
Dr. Paul (Company's Resident Doctor) and myself.
Ther examination was continued on the 30th inst.
As a result of a careful and conscientious examination, 250
{{approximate) Deck passengers, Eleven Second Class and Two First Class were
rejected and their tickets taken away by the Port Doctor.
On May 1st all accepted
FURTHER EXAMINATION AND DISINFECTION;-
passengers were brought on board a disinfection Hulk in Hong Kong Harbour.
This Hulk is fitted with all the latest appliances for thorough
disinfection and is officially recognised as a thoroughly equipped
disinfection station. The Crews and Deck passengers of Ships proceeding
to Philippine Islands, Vancouver, etc., are sent here.
On going on board the Hulk each passenger took a hot bath to
which suitable disinfectants had been added, and whilst in the bath all his
clothes and effects were undergoing steam sterilization.
Examination
The passengers then proceeded (still stripped) to the
Room", in batches of fifty. Here the temperature of each man was first
taken, then the physical condition noted, next any signs of skin eruption,
enlarged glands, rupture, deformities, etc., noted.
When this examination had been passed to the satisfaction of the
Port Medical Authority, each passenger received a ticket marked 'Disinfected" and then proceeded to the ship in a launch.
Communication with the shore then ceased.
